![]() A single moment won’t set the way for a horror story unless you’ve done the work and set the rest of the scene. The best analogy I heard is that one spark does not start a fire unless there’s something surrounding it to catch flame. It’s jarring.īut that jolt alone does not a horror story make. In horror, sometimes the most powerful jolts are based on the things you don’t see or don’t expect. The scare comes from a delicate rhythm of tension and release, of the unknown threat or unseen danger finally being realized. The moment the monster appears, attacks, maims, etc - that’s the moment the spring comes undone, and then (if it’s not the climax) the spring begins to coil back down, ready to leap again. Horror walks the line of suspense, keeping the entire world of the story contained within a tightly coiled spring. The moment that the character is stabbed is not the moment horror is born. For me there was a line between creepy and horror, and that line was gore. I was never into the blood and guts and just avoided it for the most part, even as I loved every second of all things creepy. I liked creepy, gothy things, but horror? No, thanks. Unfortunately, these titles are only available on Playstation and Nintendo consoles.Growing up, I never would have called myself a horror fan.

![]() It does not bother me one bit, and I get very useful and enjoyable analysis. Important note: Before starting, I’d like to just point out that while I own a machine with the highest specs one could want, I run Fat Fritz regularly on my 3-year-old laptop which can run it only at 2000 NPS (bottom of the performance list below). You can see the first is the overall win rate, followed by the details of the wins, draws and losses. When you run the engine you will also see the breakdown at the bottom. There is a new engine output option “Display win probabilities” that is active by default. Fritz 17 has been modified to allow users to see this pure output of the neural network. This is useful since saying a position has a 50% chance won't tell you if that means it expects 50% wins and 50% losses, or just 100% draws. Fat Fritz will break this down into not only the overall winning chances, but the expected wins, draws and losses. One of the characteristics of the neural networks is that they learn and evaluate a position based on winning chances. The Fat Fritz in the Engine Cloud runs on a quite modest quad-core CPU (five years old), though bolstered by two fast RTX 2080 video cards. On the upside, nearly any computer can use this and there is no need to buy an entirely new machine. Needless to say, a graphics card will also bring far more advantages than just running Fat Fritz, such as gaming, 3D graphics, video rendering, AI development, and more. The recommended hardware is an Nvidia RTX 2060 or faster, but the better the card, the better the experience. ![]() If you wanted an excuse to get a fancy new graphics card, you can now tell your better half, "but honey, it's for chess!" Photo: Zotac Even though Fat Fritz might be running a thousand times slower than conventional engines, it will still provide top analysis, but without a graphics card the experience will be only useful as a demonstration, and will be slower by a factor of 1000-2000. The neural network weights are a massive file with tens of millions of values that comprise its vast knowledge of the game, and while the calculations are all done on the CPU, the graphics card, thanks to its unique design, is used to read the neural network and feed the CPU the evaluation for every position it examines. There really is no way to get around this. You will have seen that to use Fat Fritz and Leela properly you will need a solid graphics card. ![]() In The Penguin Guide to Jazz, Richard Cook and Brian Morton wrote that like its predecessor, Pangaea 's lengthy performances combined musical forms from African-American genres with Karlheinz Stockhausen's "conception of a ' world music' that moves like creeping tectonic plates". Considine rated it half-a-star higher than Agharta in The Rolling Stone Album Guide. Although he found the band less impressive here than on Agharta, Jurek said some individual members stood out more on Pangaea, which he found just "as relentless" and "plenty satisfying". ĪllMusic's Thom Jurek was more enthusiastic. Tingen also observed "a sense of tiredness and drift", which he attributed to the septet having played the first concert earlier that day: "There are several extended periods during which the band just plays out the grooves, waiting for Miles to give the next cue." In the Los Angeles Times, Bill Kohlhaase called Pangaea "a striking personal soundtrack of decline that, like Miles himself, suffers from exhaustion before playing itself out". Davis biographer Jack Chambers found the performance "vastly" inferior to Agharta, as did Paul Tingen, who lamented Davis' reduced presence and role directing his band. In The Village Voice, Robert Christgau gave Pangaea 's 1991 CD reissue an honorable mention, citing "Zimbabwe" as the highlight while lamenting the flute playing and scant track listing. Critical reception Retrospective professional reviews Review scores It did not see release anywhere else until 1991, when in May that year, Columbia Records released Pangaea on CD in the United States, as part of the label's Columbia Jazz Contemporary Masters reissue program. This album's music was split into two tracks, "Zimbabwe" and "Gondwana", the latter of which was the name of the ancient supercontinent, as was " Pangaea". Nefertiti was the final all-acoustic album of Davis' career. Similarly, Pinocchio is a relatively fast composition on the released version and yet the group rehearsed it at a much slower pace, with the horns repeating the head whilst the rhythm section improvises underneath, in a similar manner to the master take of 'Nefertiti'. On the next two takes (including the released version) it is rendered at a fast tempo in predominantly 4/4 time. For example, the quintet initially rehearsed 'Madness' as a slow waltz. This album, along with others by this particular group, demonstrates their willingness to fundamentally alter the basics of a composition during the recording process. In 1978, Shorter recorded a new version of "Pinocchio" with Weather Report for the album Mr. Shortly after this album, Hancock recorded a different version of "Riot" for his 1968 album Speak Like a Child. Michael Bailey of All About Jazz cited it as one of the quintet's six albums between 19 that introduced the post-bop subgenre. The fourth album by Miles Davis's Second Great Quintet, Nefertiti, is best known for the unusual title track, on which the horn section repeats the melody numerous times without individual solos while the rhythm section improvises underneath, reversing the traditional role of a rhythm section. Davis himself did not contribute any compositions, which were mostly written by Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. Recorded on June 7, June 22–23 and July 19, 1967, at Columbia's 30th Street Studio, the album was Davis' last fully acoustic album. These 5 levels took the themes they were given and made them stand above the rest with masterful use of gimmicks and music. These games are noted for their variety in levels, and that can never be denied. Like the character bearing its name, it's a tricky map full of traps, and that in itself makes it great. Both gimmicks feel very Waluigi-like in tone, designed to trick and get under players' skins. The starting area has a timed explosion that causes players to lose all their coins, and the other is a lift that takes players in whatever direction the arrow decides to point. Being based around the character of Waluigi, the board is full of devious tricks, both out of the player's control. This is a board from Mario Party 3 that stands out more for its gimmicks than the island theme. RELATED: The Switch Pro Is Important, But It's the Games That REALLY Matter Mystery Land These things set the board up as one of the trickier, rewarding ones. Bowser will fire the player to another part of the board using his cannon, but instead of using a wheel to determine the area, he will send the player to a random area, making or breaking a player's plan for stars. Players can get FlyGuy to bring them to Bowser for a fee, and Bowser himself, who usually offers a forced bogus item, has a whole new trick here. The gimmicks around the cannons help to bring the best out too. In addition, the gimmick of using the cannons to get around fits right into the theming while managing not to disrupt and slow the gameplay down. The shattered and separated area, mixed with the morose battle march that plays on the board, truly does well in bringing about the feel of a war-torn field. Players use the cannons around the board to move to different parts of the board, collecting stars in an effort to stop an ongoing Bob-omb war. Wario's Battle Canyon from the first Mario Party features a battlefield split into 5 different areas. RELATED: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: 5 Easter Eggs You've Raced Past Wario's Battle Canyon These next few boards got the best of all of these things, and that's why these 5 are the ones that are worthy of being called the best on this list now. ![]() They also feature unique events and gimmicks, which helps them to shine and stand out. The theme of the board, as well as the music, helps each one distinguish itself. The boards in Mario Party titles always have a few core things to them that set them apart from each other and elevate them when folks can play with friends. With such a long time in the gaming world from N64 until now on the Switch, it's time to say which 5 of the N64 game boards were truly the best out of them all. One of the things that ensured this was how varied and awesome the boards were and that each game had a good amount of them, even during the Nintendo 64 days. Its board game gameplay mixed with all the gimmicks has ensured it stayed around even today. The Mario Partyseries has been a mainstay at Nintendo, becoming a household name almost instantly when it launched on the N64. Released players reside on waivers for at least 48 hours before clearing waivers. Due to the high volume of waiver claims at certain times of the season, it may take several hours for all waivers in all leagues to process. To learn more about the waivers process in your league, read the appropriate information section.Īll players not on a fantasy roster reside on waivers following each week of play, remaining there from Tuesday morning until waivers begin to clear at 3 a.m. Intentional cycling of players through waivers is a serious offense and may result in a team being banned in Premium Standard Leagues. But some owners took advantage of the rule, tying up all available players at a position (such as kicker) and denying their fellow owners the ability to add players. Sometimes this might done honestly - an owner changes his/her mind after adding a player and decides he/she doesn't want the player. Owner added a player to their roster and then immediately dropped him, the player would go to waivers for 48 hours and could not be added to any team during that period. To help prevent the issue of "cycling" players through free agency, a player that is added and released on the same day will remain a free agent. All available players not on Waivers are considered Free Agents. The team that puts a claim on a player - and who has the higher waiver priority number - will receive the player when waivers clear. Owners can put a claim for that player, but must wait a specified amount of time until the waiver clears. They may have been undrafted or dropped by owners. Waivers are the process by which owners can select from the pool of available players who are not on a team's roster in the league. When all slots on a roster are filled, a team must drop a player before or during the addition of a new player. Please see the waivers explanation for both Custom and Standard Leagues to determine the schedule that your league uses. At that point in time, the waiver period within your league (if you have one) will then begin. Each week, players are frozen - may not be added to a team's roster, cut, or traded - from the time they begin play until the end of the Monday night game. These unsigned players are available to add to your team at all times that a player is not frozen. ![]() The player pool may be searched by position from the Players page. There are many players available in the player pool (those players not currently on a team in your league) who you may want to pick up for your squad. Please keep in mind that if you make any roster moves in the interim (adding/dropping a player or players) this will delete or clear any roster selections you made for future weeks. Go to your Team page and click on the links for the Week (3,4,5 etc.) of interest to access your roster page for each future date. This can prove to be helpful if you will not have access to a computer (on vacation, business trip etc.) but you would like to make sure that you are receiving credit for players at each team roster slot. Fantasy Football allows team owners in both Customizable and Standard leagues the ability to modify their lineups for future weeks of NFL action. If you make a move that violates a roster slot, an error message will appear notifying you to double check the proposed transaction to ensure that you are moving players to available slots. When you make transactions during the week you must move a player to the bench or waivers when moving a player to the starting lineup. As detailed in transactions (above), roster moves involving a player may be made right up until that player is scheduled to begin play for the week. The Team page allows you to analyze each of your current players, review their year-to-date and previous week's performance, and freely move players between your active roster and bench. You decide which players to start for each week of games. ![]() At that time, owners may begin making changes for the following week of fantasy competition but may not change their roster for the week just concluding. Once locked, players may not be moved again until 3:00 a.m. For Standard Leagues each player becomes locked at their current position in the active lineup or bench at the time their team is scheduled to kick off each week. Custom Leagues may have players locking at the start of their individual gametimes, or all players on your roster may lock once the first NFL game of the week begins (check your league settings to determine what your league manager selected). Players may be moved in or out of a team's active lineup based on the rules in place for your leagues. Teams can make changes to their lineup throughout the week. ![]() ![]() To create ‘memorable characters and heart-warming stories that appeal to audiences of all ages’.
